Ann S. Porter holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. While working in public school education, she especially enjoyed the challenge of preparing students for adjudication for choral festivals. Her choirs consistently achieved superior ratings in District Festivals and national choral competitions. Mrs. Porter has contributed actively to the music of the community. In addition to teaching, her experience includes piano and vocal coaching; working in church music ministry; and directing community choirs, high school choral festivals, and musical theater productions. She was Music Director of Williamsburg Children’s Theater, Stagelights for four years, and was Music Director for West Point High School’s 2007 production of High School Musical. She is a member of the Pelham Choir at Bruton Parish Church. A three-day seminar in June, 2007, conducted by Judith Clurman, Conductor of Choral Activities, Juilliard School of Music, reinforced her belief that choir singing in any form brings joy, hope, and reverence for life to those who sing and to those who listen. Finally, she learned a special lesson from Ms. Clurman and will pass it on to all choral singers: “In performance the chorus needs to watch the director at all times; she might just change her mind!”
