Ann S. Porter holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her 34 years of music teaching have taken her to four states, as well as Germany and Okinawa. In 2003 she retired as choral director at Bruton High School in York County. While working in public education, she especially "enjoyed the challenge of preparing students for adjudication for choral festivals." She has been active in the Music Educators National Conference and served as Secretary of the Virginia Music Educators National Conference. Her choirs consistently achieved superior ratings in District Festivals and national choral competitions.
Mrs. Porter has contributed actively to the music of the community. In addition to teaching, her experience includes piano and vocal coaching; working in church music ministry; and directing community choirs, high school choral festivals, and musical theater productions. She is in her fourth year as Music Director of Williamsburg Children's Theater, Stagelights, and was Music Director for West Point High School's 2007 production of High School Musical. She is a member of the Pelham Choir at Bruton Parish Church.
