Consistent attendance at weekly rehearsals is expected. No more than three absences per season will be excused. Extenuating circumstances for absences which exceed the three excused absences must be discussed with the Director. If approved, members should be prepared to sing music privately for the Director. Section Contact Persons must keep an accurate roll and report absences to the Vice President. The Section Contact Person should inform the Vice President and member when the third absence occurs. Members report planned absences to their section contact person. Attendance is mandatory for all final ("Dress") rehearsals.
All are invited for “Social Half-Hour” from 9:00 to 9:29 a.m. Rehearsals begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Three tardies constitute one absence.
Music for each season is selected by the artistic director. The criteria include sufficient challenge to encourage musical growth. At the beginning of each season (upon pay-ment of dues), members are issued a numbered folder with numbered music. Members must use only pencil to mark music. The folders are returned to the Librarian at the close of the final concert of each season. Singers are expected to learn their vocal parts outside of rehearsal time. Soloists are chosen by the artistic director.
by director invitation only.
In order for the Chorus to look uniform and professional, concert attire for all performances is selected and approved by the Board of Directors. Concert gowns/skirts/pants are hemmed to rest on top of your shoes. Performers wear black hose and black shoes with black soles, and only approved jewelry. Details are announced for each performance. Members needing to purchase concert attire or jewelry contact Sandy Elizabeth Owens (229-1950).
In the event Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather, the chorus does not meet. If, however, the schools delay opening, the chorus rehearses at its regular time. (School information available at W-JCC hotline, (757) 259-4154.)
